Honoring Legacy: Building the Future

As we enter this season of gratitude, I’m reminded of how powerful it is when men come together to serve, lead, and lift others.

This year, we’ve seen extraordinary growth in membership, collaboration, and impact. We welcomed new mentors, expanded partnerships, and continued to transform lives through education, workforce development, and youth programming. None of this is possible without the commitment of our members, volunteers, donors, and community partners.

As we celebrate 25 years of the Beautillion Militaire Scholarship Program, we are asking our community to help us recruit 25 new mentors—men ready to stand in the gap for the next generation. If you’ve ever thought about giving back, now is your moment to show up.

With gratitude,

Kraig Kinchen, MD, MScExecutive Director, 100 Black Men Indianapolis, Inc.

Mentoring Across a Lifetime

For nearly three decades, James Duke has dedicated his Sundays to mentoring young men through the Beautillion Militaire Scholarship Program—guiding them with patience, purpose, and an unwavering belief in their potential. To Duke, mentorship isn’t a single act but a lifelong commitment to showing up, listening, and leading by example.

As he marks his 25th year with The 100 Black Men of Indianapolis, Duke’s story is a reminder that mentorship is a movement sustained by consistency and care. In honor of his service, The 100 is calling on the community to help welcome 25 new mentors by year’s end—continuing the legacy that Duke has built for generations to come.

A Tribute: From the Lives You’ve Touched

Across Indianapolis, hundreds of Beaus proudly call James Duke their mentor, role model, and friend. His quiet strength and steady presence have shaped young men into confident leaders—teaching them resilience, faith, and purpose through every season of life.

In a powerful new tribute, Duke’s mentees share how his belief in them changed the trajectory of their lives. As former Beau Brandon Higgins (’07) shared, “Mr. Duke taught us that mentorship is more than advice—it’s consistency. His dedication has shaped generations of young Black men, creating leaders and change-makers who carry his example into their communities.”

Their reflections remind us that mentorship doesn’t just change one life—it creates a ripple effect of hope and leadership that spans generations.
